  1. BALTIMORE (AP) The Baltimore Orioles game against the Minnesota Twins was rained out and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader Saturday starting at 405 p.m. EDT.Dan Straily (1-1, 10.24 ERA) will stay on his normal schedule and start the first game for Baltimore Addison Reed Jersey. Signed following his release by Miami near the end of spring training, Straily got his first win with Baltimore when he allowed one run and two hits over five innings in an 8-1 victory over Boston on April 15.Alex Cobb (0-0, 3.18 ERA) was scheduled to come off the injured list from a lumbar strain and pitch the series opener Friday. Instead, he will pitch the second game of the doubleheader in his first start since April 4, when he allowed two runs and five hits over 5 2 3 innings in an 8-4 loss to the Yankees. Minnesota has not announced its starting pitcher.José Berríos (2-1, 2.30), Friday scheduled starter, will take the mound in the opener. He has limited opponents to three or fewer runs in each of his first four appearances this season.Left-hander Martín Pérez (1-0, 5.02 ERA) will start the second game after pitching out of the bullpen in his first three appearances. He allowed one run and seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks over six innings Monday against Detroit Harmon Killibrew Jersey.
  2. Some people will tell you that after only six games it way too early to know much of anything about the 2019 Royals. But in the six games theye played theye pretty much shown me what I expected to see before the season started so I going to entirely disregard that. Particularly after watching Wednesday game I think wee seen both the best and the worst of this team and it should serve as a template of what to expect for most of this season Hunter Dozier Jersey. In the bottom of the fifth inning of that game, the Royals showed us how building the team for speed can work. After Billy Hamilton took a rare walk he stole second - speed. Then when Whit Merrifield hit a groundball single into left Hamilton scored from second - speed. Adalberto Mondesi followed that up by reaching on an infield single - speed. Then Alex Gordon broke up the speed party with a three-run blast to center field. Jorge- Soler reached base when Jorge Polanco threw the ball away. Polanco probably wasn intimidated by Soler speed, but perhaps he was rattle or unfocused because of what all the Royals speedsters had already done and didn take the time or have the concentration to make a proper throw https://www.royalsfansapparel.com/Mike_Sweeney_Jersey-66. Ryan Oearn singled to center and Soler went first to third speed. Chris Owings drove in Soler with a single to right. Without speed the Royals score no runs in that inning - Alex Gordon never comes up without Mondesi infield hit.The Royals scored five runs because of speed that steals bases, that takes extra bases on hits, and reaches first on a groundball. That what speed can do for this team. They can wreak havoc on the opponent defense. When the Royals offense is working correctly, this is what it can look like. If even one speedster gets on the situation can quickly snowball out of control for opponents who feel pressured to try and slow the Royals down https://www.royalsfansapparel.com/Eric_Skoglund_Jersey-26. The problem is that first bit getting a speedster on base, to begin with. If the offense stops getting on-base as much as they have been so far theyl be dead in the water. If youe wondering how likely that is I point you Baseball Reference which indicates that through six games the Royals have a slightly above average OPS+. With guys like Owings, Martn Maldonado, Lucas Duda, and Billy Hamilton anchoring the bottom of the lineup do you really expect that to lastThere is more to the team than it position players, thoughHomer Bailey made his Royals debut and he pitched five innings allowing three runs while striking out eight. It wasn a terrible performance but neither was it great. It wasn exactly a quality start but it was good enough to keep the Royals in the game. That more or less what his rotation mates gave the Royals last year and they appear to be on pace to continue doing that. So they have what has been an averagish offense and an averagish rotation through one week. The bullpen, however, is an entirely separate issue. Did you know Windows doesn even come with Minesweeper pre-installed anymore And if you download it from their store it includes ads now How ridiculous is that Anyway, if youe young enough to have no clue what Minesweeper is it a time-killing game that used to be included in every copy of Windows for free. It a puzzle in which the user attempts to deduce where all of the mines are by clicking on a grid and hoping that what pops up is a number of adjacent squares that are mines instead of having a mine explode in their face.BabyBlues is dead on here. I actually go a step further and argue that the bullpen is like an entire game of Minesweeper on hard. Much like hard-mode Minesweeper massive board the first time the Royals go to the bullpen it can seem like an insurmountable task because the Royals starters aren going very deep into games. Also like hard-mode Minesweeper, Ned is very likely to have something blow up in his face the first time he points to what looks like a possible answer. And Billy Hamilton Jersey, like hard-mode Minesweeper, even if you survive that first move you have to make so many more before you get to the end that youe probably still going to blow yourself up before you can get there no matter how hard you try.The Royalsbullpen has not given up fewer than two runs in any game so far this season. Wee only six games in. They could all turn into vintage Wade Davis before our very eyes and make me look silly for fretting. But a stretch of six games where the relievers walk more than they strike out and give up at least two runs a game just doesn seem likely to reach heights even so lofty as lightly below averageThe most frustrating thing about the bullpen is that the rest of the team has been good enough for the first week that if they could have just done their job once or twice the team would be .500 or better instead of 2-4. Would that make a difference by the end of the season Eh... probably not. But if the bullpen doesn improve in a hurry wee all going to look silly for predicting only 85-90ish losses by the end of the year after the rotation and lineup have a chance to go through some skids of their own.

  4. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Gerrit Cole had been frustrated most of the game, like the rest of the Astros, and Houston starter went immediately to the home plate umpire after recording his final out.Cole put his glove over his mouth and was clearly agitated during an extended conversation with ump Ron Kulpa at the end of the sixth inning of the Astros 4-0 loss Wednesday night against the Texas Rangers. That was long after Astros manager AJ Hinch and hitting coach Alex Cintron had been ejected by Kulpa in the second inning for arguing balls and strikes. It was a challenging night for us. Just looking to shower it off, said Cole (0-2), who struck out nine and allowed three runs. Maybe disagreed on a call or two, but that wasnt the major point of issue for me. What he does is out of my control and I need to do a better job of handling my body language. Im just going to leave it on the field. It wasnt with the strike zone.Umpire crew chief Jerry Meals Brett Nicholas Jersey, who was working third base, said Cole was upset leaving the game because Kulpa had limited him on his warmup pitches in the fourth inning after the pitcher was late coming out of the dugout then. Meals said Kulpa was enforcing MLB pace-of-play policy when he stepped in front of the plate.Weve been instructed to tell him one more pitch, he ignored that. Threw another one, fine. Ignored it again, wanted to keep throwing, Meals said. He has a responsibility to come out of the dugout earlier to warm up. He waited until his catcher was ready, which is not what you do.As for the ejections, Meals said the Astros dugout basically erupted after a called strike on the first pitch thrown to Tyler White in the second.Hinch then came out after Kulpa stared toward the dugout. Nobody was initially ejected, but soon after the manager returned to the dugout and before the next pitch, Cintron was still chirping and was tossed. When Hinch was asked if he was upset that Kulpa kept looking toward the dugout, the manager responded, Yeah, I think things could have been handled differently. Everybody has social media. Everybody has a broadcast. So everybody knows what happened. One pitch later, after another called strike, Hinch was ejected and then came out of the dugout for a heated argument with Kulpa. Hinch was pulled away by bench coach Joe Espada, who took over as the acting manager https://www.rangersteamfansshop.com/Troy_Dixon_Jersey-77.So we know you argue balls and strikes is one thing. When you get ejected more aggressively, it disappointing, Hinch said.On replay, Kulpa appeared to be saying I can do whatever I want while addressing Hinch. That what he said, and that apparently what he meant, Hinch said. He in charge. And obviously you make a scene I guess so everybody has to pay attention. But well let the league sort it out.Meals said Kulpa had warned the Astros bench to knock it off and told Hinch that when he came out the first time https://www.rangersteamfansshop.com/Kyle_Dowdy_Jersey-63.It was all because of the dugout complaining on pitches, Meals said of the ejections.Mike Minor (1-1) pitched seven sharp innings for the Rangers, who are 4-2 after winning each of their first two series for new manager Chris Woodward. It is the first time since 2013 that Texas has won its first two series of a season.Minor, who didnt make it out of the fifth inning in his first career opening-day start last Thursday, gave up five hits, struck out seven and walked two.I think I was honestly just glad to get that out of the way, Minor said, referring to his first start. And now every game counts and everybody just kind of leaning on each other. It not going to match up like that the whole season, so everybody just kind of going out there competing. After fielding Hunter Pences comebacker and throwing to first for an inning-ending out on his 105th pitch in the sixth, Cole went directly to Kulpa. While the Astros batted in the seventh, Cole was still rankled while pacing back and forth in the dugout.Cole also addressed Kulpa after the third inning, during a stretch when the pitcher had just retired seven batters in a row since Gallo walk in the first https://www.rangersteamfansshop.com/Brett_Nicholas_Jersey-20.The loss ended a season-opening 2-5 trip for the two-time defending AL West champions who won the World Series in 2017.Nomar Mazara put Texas ahead to stay with a two-out infield RBI single in the first. Pence had a two-out RBI single in the fourth and scored on Ronald Guzmans double. Mazara added a solo homer , his second of the season, in the eighth.IN RELIEF Shawn Kelley and Jose Leclerc each pitched an inning to wrap up the first shutout of the season for the Rangers.TRAINERS ROOM Rangers Mazara fell awkwardly to the ground after colliding with 1B Yuli Gurriel on his hit in the first. Mazara stayed down for several minutes while a Rangers trainer checked him, before he got up and jogged around a bit.
  5. In an almost annual exercise, the San Diego Padres are searching for a new hitting coach after Matt Stairs was fired Tuesday following just one year on the job.The rebuilding Padres continued to rank at or near the bottom of the majors in key offensive stats under Stairs. His replacement will be the Padres 10th hitting coach since Petco Park opened in 2004.While saying that he felt Stairs did a good job with mostly younger players Alex Dickerson Jersey, general manager A.J. Preller said he and manager Andy Green decided that the team needed a different approach. The team is expected to promote someone from within the organization. Were wanting a different message, a different voice, Preller said. We have some other guys in mind who have real upside. Im pretty realistic that it was a younger roster, with developing players. From a performance standpoint we didnt have tons of guys who improved. It not like the entire team overachieved. We did have some improvement, but at the end of the day, sitting down with Andy and talking about it, we thought maybe a different voice, a different connection point will hopefully lead to better performance.Stairs was hired last offseason to replace Alan Zinter, who was fired on Sept. 1, 2017. Green said then that the team needed a different voice to tutor the batters. Possible replacements include assistant hitting coach Johnny Washington and Morgan Burkhart, the hitting coach at Triple-A El Paso. The Padres also fired infield coach Josh Johnson on Tuesday. The Padres were last in the majors in on-base percentage at .297, tied for second-to-last with a .235 batting average and tied for third-to-last with a .380 slugging percentage. They had the second-most strikeouts, 1,523, or 9.4 per game.Stairs spent the 2017 season as the hitting coach for the Philadelphia Phillies, his first professional coaching position. He played parts of 19 seasons in the major leagues with 12 different franchises, including the Padres in 2010.The Padres expected to be better this year than their 71-91 finish in 2017 but were last in the NL West at 66-96 Tim Flannery Jersey.
  6. CLEVELAND Ronald Acuña Jr. two-run double highlighted Atlanta five-run rally in the ninth inning as the Braves stormed back to beat the Cleveland Indians 8-7 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday night and gain a split https://www.bravesgearfansstore.com/Charlie_Culberson_Jersey-59.The Braves trailed 7-0 after two innings but chipped away late and stopped a four-game losing streak.Cleveland won the opener 8-4 behind Corey Kluber strong outing. Acuna ripped his double to left on the second pitch from Cody Anderson, Cleveland third reliever in the ninth and a pitcher seeking his first big league save. The Braves also got a two-run single by Ozzie Albies and a bases-loaded walk to Freddie Freeman in the inning before Acuña, the budding star, came through after going hitless in his previous six at-bats.Luke Jackson pitched the eighth, and A.J. Minter struck out the side in the ninth for his second save. Before Atlanta comeback, the Indians had welcomed back All-Star Francisco Lindor, who finally made his season debut. Lindor returned after missing 19 games with an ankle injury, and went 1 for 5 with a run scored. More importantly, the talented shortstop was back atop Cleveland lineup and his presence had an immediate effect. The Indians scored seven runs in their first two at-bats against Touki Toussaint, whose first start this season couldnt have gone much worse. The right-hander gave up six hits, hit three batters and dropped the Braves into a deep, early hole.Trevor Bauer kept them there for nearly seven innings. He allowed only three hits two by Tyler Flowers in 6 1 3 innings and threw a season-high 120 pitches while making Atlanta hitters guess what was coming next. Bauer has allowed four earned runs or fewer in his last 58 starts, the majors longest streak since Hall of Famer Greg Maddux did it for 106 straight outings from 1991-94.Dansby Swanson two-run homer in the seventh got things for the Braves, who then sent 11 batters to the plate in the ninth.Lindor could barely contain his excitement before the game, expressing his gratitude at playing again.I miss my teammates, I miss the game, he said. I miss the things within the game. It an honor. It a privilege to be healthy. It a blessing, and I aint taking it for granted. After receiving a boisterous ovation as he stretched while walking slowly to the plate, Lindor struck out in his first at-bat of 2019 Max Fried Jersey. An inning later, he singled sharply to right-center and scored on Ramirez base hit. Lindor is wearing a brace on his ankle, which has slightly altered his gait but his boyish enthusiasm remains unchanged.Jose Ramirez hit a two-run single and Jake Bauers added a two-run double during Cleveland five-run outburst in the second, which was aided by Toussaint hitting Leonys Martin for the second straight time and nailing Carlos Gonzalez. In the opener, Kluber bounced back from one of his worst outings in recent years by working seven innings. The right-hander didnt get out of the third in his previous start, when he walked a career-high five and gave up two homers in a no-decision.TRAINERS ROOMBraves Acuña stayed in the opener after being hit on the left elbow by Kluber in the third. Acuña also slid awkwardly while catching Allen sinking liner in the same inning.Indians Injured starter Mike Clevinger has elected not to undergo surgery on an upper back strain, a procedure that could sideline him for three months. Francona said the right-hander will undergo another MRI and the results will determine when he can resume throwing https://www.bravesgearfansstore.com/Wes_Parsons_Jersey-54.
